Car Batteries....

Posted on 2007-02-10

We've had a couple of days of really cold weather around here lately. And you know with cold weather comes car batteries failing. It never fails. It seems that those cold winter nights hit them real hard, especially if they are on thier last leg....like mine. Our '99 Explorer has been acting funny lately. Take for instance...my wife and I stopped at a local food place to get something to eat through the drive through (redundant, huh.). We got our food and decided to just eat our food in the parking lot in the car. While talking and eating, I forgot to turn off the lights (the car was turned off). After about 15 minutes or so, we finished and I decided to start up the car....nothing...just "click" "click" "click". The battery was dead. With it being late and all, there was no one in the parking lot, so I ran in to ask the manager to see if he had any jumper cables. During this time, my wife made a call to her parents who lived about 15 minutes or so away - my wife's dad was coming to jump our car. Just then the manager came out to jump our car. What would we do? Tell him that it was o.k., my father-in-law was coming or just let him do it. You got it. I let him jump it. But, then I started to feel bad that my father-in-law was coming all that way from his house. So....I turned off the car and turned the lights on to run down the battery again...you got it, again. My father-in-law arrived soon after that and jumped our car again. My wife and I will keep this our little secret. And yes, we got a new battery. Has something like this ever happened to you?
